Don't ever assume that, because someone is a Christian, that they will automatically agree with you politically.
A Christian friend just asked me what I thought of this picture.
Here is my reply.
Vote as we may, God is the Ultimate Decider, if you will, of who governs nations. America is no exception. Consider the words of Daniel 2:20-21: "Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings..." God has allowed an Obama presidency, and with good reason.
In Deuteronomy 28:1-14, God promises numerous blessings to Israel, if they keep His Laws. In the remainder of this chapter - verses 15-56 - God promises many curses to Israel if they forsake His Laws. I want to focus on verses 49-50: "The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, a nation of fierce countenance..."
God would eventually bring Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome against Israel. Even though the above picture is probably a product of Photoshop, we may very well have a Muslim president, and an illegal alien to boot. And while the Muslim world is militarily irrelevant and, hence, "radical Islam" will not take over the world militarily, I believe God is using Obama to send a message to America because of its sin. I also believe that God is sending us a message through the spread of Muslim violence and Sharia law in Europe and America.
I do not just speak here of abortion, adultery, pornography, etc. I speak also of the sins that are promoted and praised by so many Christians: aggressive war against countries that have done nothing to America and the wholesale mass murder of innocents. Whenever I ponder the fact that the most bloodthirsty warmongers in America are "pro-life" Christians who say they worship the Prince of Peace, I KNOW EXACTLY WHY OBAMA IS PRESIDENT.
While our Founders may not all have been Christians, they had a far more biblical understanding about government and politics than almost any Chrisitans have today. They gave us a tool to deal with things like piracy and terrorism: Letters of Marque and Reprisal. These are warrants to go after the specific perpetrators of these crimes.
What did America do in response to 9/11? We started wars with Afghanistan and Iraq, threatened war with Iran and attacked Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen. Evangelical Christians went positively gonzo in support for GWB and his wars. Even though they ooze with hatred for him, Obama has no intention whatsoever of ending the wars Bush started. These wars are permanent.
6000 American soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines have been killed. Many thousands more have been permanently injured. Countless thousands of innocent Afghans, Iraqis, Pakistanis, etc. who never lifted a finger to harm America have been killed. And the biggest supporters of this madness have been "pro-life" Christians. God isn't down with this -- Proverbs 6:16-18. I believe He has rewarded us with EXACTLY the president we deserve.
Our churches are full of people who are infatuated with conservatism, militarism and nationalism, but horribly ignorant of the Gospels. (1) Our churches are full of people who glorify war, conquest and indiscriminate slaughter, but who have forgotten that Jesus preached peace, love and forgiveness.
General Omar Bradley called it right: "We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount. The world has achieved brilliance without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than about peace, more about killing than we know about living."
I profoundly believe this is why God has allowed the spread of Islamic violence and Sharia law in Europe and now America. I believe that this is why He will allow an elaborate Islamic community center (2) just a few blocks from Ground Zero.
In the Great Commission - Matthew 28:19 - Jesus tells the Disciples: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Note that He does not say "Bomb the crap out of countries that have done nothing to you and kill countless innocent people." We have embraced reckless militarism and rejected the Great Commission. Is it any wonder why God has allowed us to have a president like Obama?
And if you are so blind with nationalistic pride that you don't understand this, just remember Proberbs 16:18: "Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall."
I leave you with a quote from Jefferson: "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His Justice cannot sleep forever."
