NOW ABOUT COLUMBINE...

From the Fountain of Truth Home Page, May, 1999.

The orgy of blood which occurred on April 20 at Columbine High School (located about 20 miles from where this page originates), was a reprehensible outrage. My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those who perished that day, with those who were needlessly injured and with the students, faculty, and staff of Columbine High School.

People ask “Where was God at Columbine?” As Cassie Bernall’s last words indicate, He was undoubtedly there. But did enough people allow Him into their lives so as to influence the culture there (and, not to mention, Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold) so that such carnage would not occur?

I don't think so.

Why do people only get on their knees before God after tragedies strike?

Why don't people seem to acknowledge God when everything seems okay?

I will leave it up to more profound thinkers than I to offer answers to these questions. As my forte is political commentary and the relationship between Christians and their government, I will limit my post-Columbine remarks to the following:

Big Government groupies everywhere have capitalized on the Columbine tragedy to advance whatever statist agendas they had before April 20. What happened at Columbine happened when American relied more on government than ever before. As one of so many symptoms of how America has forgotten God, we are so eager to ask our earthly rulers to solve our problems that we lose focus on our real King.

This King does not enter people's lives by kicking down doors. Rather, He stands outside and waits, and enters by invitation only. (Revelation 3:20) When enough Americans turn their hearts to God, and start placing their hope in His promises, and not the here-today-gone-tomorrow promises of their lords temporal, we will see more and more of the good things that we say we want start to happen, and more and more of the bad things wesay we don't want stop happening. (II Chronicles 7:14)
